An AI essay helper for planning and feedback

AlgoChat helps with the hard parts of an essay. It can turn a vague topic into an argument, test whether your thesis holds up, and read your draft against the rubric your teacher gave out. You still write the essay. It acts as the reader who tells you what is working and what is not.

It is free in your browser, with no account. Paste your draft or attach a photo or PDF of it.

Start with a plan

Many essays go wrong at the planning stage. Spend ten minutes planning in the chat. Paste the question and ask what it is really asking, since many prompts hide a "to what extent" or a "compare" that changes the whole structure.

Then build a thesis. A good one takes a side someone could disagree with. "Social media has good and bad effects" is not a thesis. "Social media does more harm to teenagers' sleep than to their grades" is. Ask AlgoChat to argue against your thesis, then decide whether your evidence answers that.

Finally, outline. One line per paragraph, each with its point and its evidence. It is much easier to fix an outline than a 1,200-word draft.

Feedback against your rubric

General feedback like "good flow" is not much use. Paste or photograph the actual rubric and ask for a score on each criterion, with quotes from your essay to justify it. Then ask for the single change that would gain the most marks. Fix that, paste the new version and ask again.

You can also ask narrow questions. "Does every paragraph link back to my thesis?" "Where am I describing instead of analysing?" "Which sentences could I cut to get under 800 words?"

O-Level composition and situational writing

For Singapore O-Level English situational writing, tell AlgoChat the task in full and ask it to check purpose, audience and context, plus format. An email to a principal needs a different tone and structure from a speech to classmates. It can point out where you missed a required point from the task or slipped into the wrong register.

For continuous writing, say which type you chose, such as narrative, argumentative or reflective. Ask whether your essay answers the exact question rather than a nearby one, which is a common way to lose content marks. The same approach works for GCSE, IB and college writing. Name your course so it uses the right criteria.

Be careful with sources

When it is not searching the web, AlgoChat writes from what it learned in training. In that mode it can produce a book, article or quote that sounds real and does not exist. When it searches, it links the pages it used. Either way, open every source, confirm it says what the essay claims, and take citation details from the source itself. It can format a reference in APA, MLA or Harvard once you give it the correct details.

Help, not ghostwriting

AlgoChat will draft text if you ask. For schoolwork, you learn more when you write and it critiques. Your teachers also know your voice. Many schools have rules on AI use in assessed work, so check them before you start. Keep your notes and drafts as a record of your own process.

Questions

Will it write my essay for me?

It can draft text, but for schoolwork the useful part is planning and feedback. Check your school's AI rules before using any AI-written text in work you submit.

Can it check grammar and spelling?

Yes. Ask it to list errors with corrections rather than rewrite everything, so you can see and learn from each fix.

Can it make up sources?

Yes, especially when it is not searching the web. Treat every reference as unverified until you have opened it and found the claim yourself.

Does it know the O-Level English format?

It knows the common formats for situational writing, such as formal emails, letters, reports and speeches. Your teacher's marking scheme is the final word, so paste it in when you have it.

Can it help with essays in other languages?

Yes. It replies in the language you write in and can give feedback on essays in many languages, including Chinese, Malay and Tamil.
