How to use AI to talk through a relationship problem

Sometimes you need to say a situation out loud before you understand it. A partner who has gone quiet, a friend who keeps cancelling, a parent who will not stop commenting on your choices. AlgoChat gives you somewhere to lay it out, at any hour, without worrying about what the other person will think of you.

This guide covers how to describe a situation, see the other person's side and prepare for a conversation you are dreading. It also covers when to talk to a real person instead.

Start chatting, it's free No sign-up. Works in your phone's browser.

Try one of these

Describe what happened

"My boyfriend does not care about me" is a feeling. It gives the chat almost nothing to work with. Advice gets better when you describe what actually happened:

  • Who the person is to you and how long you have known them.
  • Two or three specific moments, with what was said as closely as you remember.
  • What you have already tried, and how they reacted.
  • What you want. To stay close, to set a boundary, to understand, or to decide whether to leave.

It is fine to start messy. Type it as it comes, then ask "what am I missing?" or "ask me questions first".

Get the other person's perspective

When you are hurt, it is hard to see why someone acted the way they did. Ask the chat directly: "What are some reasons my sister might have said that, other than not caring?" It will suggest explanations you can test, like stress, a misunderstanding, or something they have not told you.

This does not mean you were wrong to be upset. It gives you better questions to ask the real person. It can also help you notice a pattern. If every explanation needs you to keep making excuses for someone, that is worth seeing too.

Keep in mind that the chat only hears your side. It cannot know what the other person thinks. Treat its ideas as possibilities to check, not as facts about them.

Script a hard conversation

Planning what to say makes a difficult talk less frightening. Ask for an opening line that names the issue without blame, such as "I have been feeling a bit distant from you lately and I want to talk about it". Then ask the chat to play the other person and respond the way they might, so you can practise staying calm.

You can also ask it to rewrite a message you have drafted so it sounds less like an accusation. "I" statements help, and so does keeping to one issue at a time.

What it is not, and when to get help

AlgoChat is not a therapist or counsellor, and it is not a replacement for one. It can help you think and find words. It cannot diagnose anything or step in if things get worse. If a problem keeps coming back or is affecting your sleep, school or work, talk to a counsellor or doctor.

If you are being hurt, threatened or controlled by someone, or you are thinking about harming yourself, please do not rely on a chat. Contact your local emergency number if you are in danger now. You can also call a crisis line in your country, or tell a trusted adult, friend or family member today. If you are not sure who to call, ask AlgoChat to help you find a crisis service where you live. It can search the web and link the official page.

Questions

Is it OK to ask an AI for relationship advice?

Yes, as a way to think things through and find words. It hears only your side, so treat its suggestions as ideas to test, and talk to people you trust for anything big.

Is AlgoChat a replacement for therapy?

No. It is a general chat assistant, not a therapist. It can help you prepare for a conversation or understand your options, but it cannot provide treatment or ongoing support.

What should I do if I feel unsafe?

If you are in danger, contact your local emergency number now. Otherwise, reach out to a crisis line in your country or someone you trust. AlgoChat can help you look up local services.

Is what I share private?

Chats are tied to your browser, not your name or email. AlgoChat keeps conversations to show your history and does not sell them. You can leave out names. See algochat.app/privacy for details.

Will it tell me to break up?

It will not decide for you. It can help you weigh what you want, what has changed and what you have tried, so the decision you make is clearer to you.
