Solve math problems from a photo, step by step
Take a photo of the problem, send it to AlgoChat and ask for the working. It reads the question, names the method, and shows each step with fractions, roots and exponents written as proper math notation. You get a solution you can copy into your book line by line and understand.
It works in your phone browser with no account and no app to install.
Try one of these
- PhotoSolve the problem in this photo step by step. Name the method first, then show every line of working.
- EquationSolve 3x^2 - 5x - 2 = 0 by factorising, then check the roots by substituting them back in.
- Word problemA train travels 240 km at a steady speed. If it went 20 km/h faster, the trip would take 1 hour less. Find its speed. Show how you set up the equation.
- VerifyRecheck every arithmetic step in your last answer one line at a time and tell me if anything changes.
- Another wayShow me a different method for the same problem so I can compare the two.
What a good solution looks like
A useful solution is one you could reproduce in an exam. Ask for the method name at the top, such as "substitution" or "integration by parts", then numbered steps, then a clearly stated final answer with units. AlgoChat writes the math in real notation, so a fraction looks like a fraction and an integral looks like an integral, even on a small screen.
If a step jumps too far, ask "how did you get from line 3 to line 4?" It keeps the whole problem in the chat, so follow-up questions pick up where you left off.
Getting the photo right
- Fit one problem in the frame, and crop out the rest of the page.
- Hold the phone flat above the paper so lines are not slanted.
- Include any diagram, table or given values that go with the question.
- Read back the question it states before trusting the solution. A misread minus sign or exponent changes everything.
How to check the answer
Do not stop at the final line. A few checks catch most errors, whether the mistake is yours or the AI's:
- Substitute the answer back into the original equation and see if both sides match.
- Estimate first. If you expect roughly 50 and the answer is 5,000, something went wrong.
- Check units and signs. A negative length or a speed in kilograms means a slip somewhere.
- Ask it to solve the problem a second way. Two methods that agree are a strong check.
Where it can slip
AlgoChat is good at choosing the right method and explaining it. It is weaker at long, fiddly arithmetic, such as multiplying large numbers or carrying many decimal places through ten steps. It cannot run code or a computer algebra system, so it works the numbers out the way a person would and can make the same kind of slip.
When the numbers matter, ask it to verify each step, and run the final calculation on your own calculator. It also cannot plot graphs. It can describe intercepts, turning points and asymptotes so you can sketch the curve yourself.
Questions
What kind of math can it solve?
Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability and calculus, from early secondary school through first-year university. It explains the method as it goes.
Does it use a calculator or a tool like a CAS?
No. AlgoChat cannot run code or a computer algebra system. It works through the steps itself, so check long calculations on a calculator.
Will the math display properly on my phone?
Yes. Equations render as real math notation with proper fractions, powers and symbols, in phone and desktop browsers.
Can it draw a graph?
No. It can describe the key features of a graph, such as intercepts and turning points, and you can sketch it from that.
What if its answer is wrong?
Tell it which step or answer you think is wrong and why. It will recheck in the same chat. If it still disagrees with your answer key, ask your teacher.
