A Talkie alternative that runs in your browser
Talkie is a character chat app with a big community of user-made characters, custom voices and in-app rewards. AlgoChat is a plainer tool. It is a free chat in your browser where you describe a character and it plays that role in text.
If you want a story partner on your phone without installing anything or making an account, this page shows how to set one up and what you will not get.
Try one of these
- Start a storyBe my rival at a magic academy. You are proud, clever and secretly lonely. We are paired for a project and neither of us is happy about it. Stay in character.
- AdventureRun a survival story. I wake up on an empty island with a backpack. Describe what I see and give me three choices each turn.
- ComedyPlay a dramatic cat who thinks it is royalty and I am its servant. Keep it silly.
- Fan storyStart a slice-of-life story set in a cafe run by two characters I will describe next. Wait for my description.
- Make a characterHelp me create an original character: give me a name, look, personality and one thing they would never admit.
What Talkie offers
As of October 2026, Talkie runs on its website and as an Android app on Google Play. Its website says visitors can start chatting with characters without registering. Australia's eSafety Commissioner describes Talkie as a chatbot where you can create, share and chat with characters, customise their voice and earn rewards that convert to virtual currency.
Talkie's terms set a minimum age of 14, or higher where local law requires. eSafety lists the minimum age according to Talkie as 16.
Setting up a character in AlgoChat
There is no character page to fill in. Everything goes in your first message, so write it like a short brief:
- Name and role. "Kai, a street musician in a rainy city."
- Personality in a few specific traits. "Cheerful in public, bitter in private, terrible at apologies."
- The opening scene. Where you are and what just happened.
- Your rules, such as reply length, whether it can describe your actions and how dark the tone can get.
Save that brief in your notes. Pasting it into a new chat brings the character back on any browser.
What you will not get here
AlgoChat has no community library of characters to browse. You cannot publish a character or follow creators. There are no voices, no character images and no rewards. It is text, and the story only goes as far as you and the chat take it.
Roleplay here is meant for fiction. Adventure, mystery, fantasy, comedy and gentle romance all work. Sexual content is not what it is for.
Which one fits you
Use Talkie if you want to browse characters other people made, hear them speak, or earn rewards. Use AlgoChat if you prefer to write your own characters, want nothing to install, or like being able to leave a story to ask a real question and come back to it.
If a chat starts to feel like your main source of company, it may help to talk to someone you trust as well. A character can be a fun story partner, but it is not a friend who knows you.
Questions
Do I need to download anything?
No. AlgoChat runs in Safari, Chrome and other phone or desktop browsers. There is no app to install and no account.
Can I chat with popular characters like on Talkie?
There is no library, but you can describe any character, including an original one, and the chat will play it. Your description is what shapes it.
Does AlgoChat have voices for characters?
No. AlgoChat is text only. Talkie offers character voices if that matters to you.
Will my story be saved?
Your chats stay in the browser you used. Clearing site data or switching device starts fresh, so keep your character brief somewhere safe.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no paid tier and no in-app currency. Some replies show recommendation cards for other apps.
