AI roleplay chat with characters you invent

Describe a character and a situation, and AlgoChat plays the part. A grumpy dragon guarding a bridge, a detective in 1920s Singapore, a rival captain in your space opera. It answers the way that character would and keeps track of what happened earlier in the same chat.

There is no character library and no account. Your first message sets up the scene, and the story starts from there.

Start chatting, it's free No sign-up. Works in your phone's browser.

How to set up a roleplay that works

The first message does most of the work. A vague setup gets a vague partner. Cover these and the scene has something to push against:

  • Who the character is. Name, age, job, how they talk and one thing they want. A character who needs something from you creates tension without any help.
  • Where and when. A rainy port town in 1890 gives the chat far more to work with than "a city".
  • Who you are, and what the two of you already know about each other.
  • The rules. Reply length, first or third person, tense, and a clear line that the chat controls only its own character and never yours.

Short replies keep a roleplay moving on a phone. Ask for 80 to 150 words per turn and raise it later if you want more description.

Steering without breaking the scene

Use out-of-character notes in brackets to change direction while the character stays in place. For example, "(OOC: make her more suspicious of me)", "(OOC: skip ahead to the next morning)" or "(OOC: add a complication I did not see coming)". The chat reads the note, adjusts, and carries on in character.

If it starts writing your actions or your dialogue, say so plainly and it will stop. If the tone drifts, name the tone you want, such as "drier humour" or "slower and more tense".

AlgoChat keeps context within a single chat, so earlier events, names and promises stay in play. In very long sessions, details from the start can fade. Ask it to write a short "story so far" every so often, and paste that recap back in if something slips.

What it does not do

Roleplay here is text only. There is no voice, and AlgoChat cannot draw your character, although it can write a detailed prompt for an image app. Characters are not saved as public profiles that others can chat with. To reuse one, keep your setup message in your notes and paste it into a new chat.

History is tied to the browser you used. Come back on the same browser and the chat is there. Clear your site data or switch phones and it starts fresh. If you want voice chats or a library of characters other people made, a dedicated character app will suit you better.

Keep it fiction

Adventure, mystery, comedy, horror, slow-burn drama and interview practice all work well. AlgoChat is built for a general audience, many of them students, so do not expect explicit content. It may decline a scene or steer it elsewhere, and it will not play out harassment of real people.

Talking a hard situation through with a character can help you find words. If something real is weighing on you, talk to someone you trust too, and in an emergency contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.

Questions

Is AI roleplay on AlgoChat free?

Yes. There is no paid tier, no message pack to buy and no sign-up. Some replies may show recommendations for other apps, which is how AlgoChat stays free.

Can I save a character and come back later?

Your chat stays in the browser you used, so you can reopen it there. There is no character profile to save or share, so keep your setup message somewhere and paste it into a new chat when you want that character again.

Will it remember what happened earlier in the story?

Within the same chat, yes. A new chat starts from nothing. For very long stories, ask for a recap now and then and paste it back in if it loses a detail.

Can the character talk out loud or send me a picture?

No. AlgoChat is text only and cannot generate images. It can describe the character in detail and turn that into a prompt you can paste into an image app.

Can I roleplay with a character from a show or game?

Yes. Name the character and the series, and say which point in the story you want. The chat may get small details wrong, and you can correct it in a bracketed note.
