An AI name generator that explains every name
Most name generators give you a random list. AlgoChat asks what the name is for, then gives options with the meaning, the origin and how to say each one. Tell it which ones you like and why, and the next list gets closer.
It works for babies, characters, Sims households, pets, gamer tags and small businesses. It also replies in your language, which helps when a name has to work in two of them.
Try one of these
- Any nameGive me 10 name ideas with the meaning, origin and pronunciation of each. Here is what the name is for and the feel I want:
- BabyWe are expecting a boy and our surname is Tan. Suggest 10 first names that work in English and Chinese, are easy to spell and have no awkward nicknames.
- FantasyName 10 characters from a desert kingdom in my fantasy novel. Make the names sound like they come from the same language.
- UsernameGive me 15 gaming usernames based on frogs and astronomy. Under 12 characters, no numbers.
- BusinessSuggest names for a home bakery in Melbourne that sells sourdough. Short, easy to say and spell, and not all puns.
Tell it what the name has to do
A good brief saves a lot of scrolling. Include what you know:
- What it is for, and who will say it most often.
- The sound you like: short or long, soft or sharp, classic or unusual.
- Languages and cultures it has to work in, including family names it should honour.
- The surname or brand words it will sit next to.
- Anything to avoid: initials that spell a word, names already used in the family, a name a sibling has.
Then react. "I like Elena and Maren, not the rest" teaches the chat more than any adjective.
Meanings, origins and sound checks
Ask for the meaning and origin of each name, then ask for checks people often forget. Say the full name out loud with the surname. Write out the initials. List the obvious nicknames and what school kids might rhyme it with. Check how it sounds or what it means in other languages your family speaks.
Meanings can be disputed or simplified, and the chat can get them wrong. For a baby name, confirm the meaning in a name dictionary or with a family member who speaks the language.
Character, Sims and pet names
For fiction, ask for names that fit the place and era. A sailor in 1700s Bristol and a hacker in 2090 Seoul should not share a naming style. For invented worlds, ask it to set two or three sound rules for each culture so names feel related.
Sims players use it for whole households, alphabet legacies where each heir starts with the next letter, and themed townies. For pets, give the animal, its personality and how it looks.
Check availability for business names and usernames
A name you love may already belong to someone else. AlgoChat can search the web and point out businesses that obviously use a name, but it cannot confirm whether a name is free. Check your country's trademark register and business registry, try the domain with a registrar, and look up the social handles before you print anything.
Questions
Is the name generator free?
Yes. There is no paid plan and no account. Ask for as many lists as you want.
Are the name meanings accurate?
Usually, but not always. Common names are well documented. Rare or modern names often have disputed meanings. Check anything important in a name dictionary.
Can it tell me if a domain or trademark is available?
No. It can search the web for obvious conflicts, but only a domain registrar and your trademark office can confirm availability.
Can it suggest names in other languages?
Yes. Ask in your language or name the languages the name must work in, and it will flag spellings or sounds that cause problems.
How do I get better suggestions?
Say which names you liked and what you liked about them. The chat keeps context, so each new list builds on your feedback.
